A novel graphic interface design based on virtual controls for the navigation of remotely controlled rescue robots is proposed．The control area is embedded into the image Bl ea．The images transmitted back by robots are displayed in full window．Some of the fields in graphic window are specified as virtual controls acting for navigation operations．Virtual controls，which aFe parts of images，offer linear adjustable con— trol capabilities．The proposed interface design reduces the attention shifting from useis nearly to zero．Experimental results show that the pro— posed interface design enhances the navigation eficiency of rescue robots apparently．
