A two-level model predictive control method based on bucket sorting is proposed. The capacitor voltage is sorted in buckets. The sub modules are divided into several groups in order. The number of groups that need to be inserted into the bridge arm is determined by the first level model predictive control, and the sub modules that need to be inserted are further determined by the second level model predictive control. In PSCAD / EMTDC, a modular multilevel converter simulation system is built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
